Starting seeds in snow country isn’t as easy as putting a tray by the window and expecting healthy seedlings to pop up. After a few years of experimenting here is what I use…..these things make it so easy and simple! Spend the bucks once and you’ll have most of these for years.
Hydrofarm 4’ Grow Light System, Seedling Heat Mat, Hydrofarm 2’ Grow Light System, Jiffy Pellets, Jiffy Starter Kit, and seedlings…..voila!
I have four of the 4’ Light Systems, two of the 2’ Light Systems and various sizes of the heat mats. Mr. Denim made some basic tables with plywood and 2 x 4s {similar to workshop benches} in our “barn” that I use for all the lights and mats {I’ll put up a post about them soon}. The “greenhouse” starter kits last for years {with gentle use!}…..and I just buy new pellets every season. These things are by far, at least for this simple gardener, the easiest way to start seeds. When it’s all said and done, who really wants to make gardening complicated? Not me.
It’s just so cool to see something sprouting to life inside in spite of the cold outside. Think I’d better start some more seeds this weekend…..repeat my mantra with me…..Spring is coming! Are you smiling too? Hope so!
