Hey gardenistas!
Can you believe it’s Happy Birthday, America week???
Already halfway thru 2019. Wowsa and yikes.
I’ve been waiting like fuheva to write this post…waiting for the Virginia Creeper vines to crawl up over the garden gate arbor…
but it ain’t happening anytime soon. So going ahead and showing it to you anyway.
Way back in the day, circa 2012, we built this garden gate. Functional…but it was pretty boring.
In 2014 I wanted to gussy it up a tad. So we did.
We added some height and more definition so you’d darn know where to enter the garden. Ha.
But then came winter 2018, cabin fever and leftover 2 x 4s. Hmmmmm.
Can’t we make a very easy arbor for the vines? Hello…Mr. Denim??? You’re bored, right?
I planned out a very simple design…nothing fancy…for a bit of 3D look. One angled cut on the ends to make it them look a tad more fancy.
{gardens look so ugly in the winter, don’t they?}
The 2 x 4s are spaced 5″ apart, 30″ in length.
Only one 5″ screw was used to anchor each board. {newer pic to show how they’re attached}
So…last month I took this photo and posted it on Instagram. Geez.
That garden gate had seen better days. Time to restain.
But you know me…I decided a little pop of color was in order.
Stain with pigment to the rescue. It will last 3-5 years vs 1-2 years for regular stain.
And I ain’t got patience for annual maintenance anymore.
This Benjamin Moore tinted stain is actually called Barn Red.
Sold.
It matches the windows and doors on the house.
I’m still pondering painting the fences the same color.
Otherwise it’ll be a colored stain called Leather Saddle Brown.
So…I’m waiting patiently now for the vines to crawl over the arbor and make it all super cute and inviting.
I think the garden dogs like it. I do!
MY RANT…Don’t be afraid to paint something a color you love. If you don’t like it you can always repaint it.
Paint is NOT permanent!
So live a little and go paint something your favorite color, OK?
