Continuing the Ruby Saga…Day 19…

..
She laid her 2nd egg yesterday morning…
IMG_1152.JPG
She evidently likes her make-believe nesting box under a stool in the greenhouse…
IMG_1161.JPG
Her egg was magnificently perfect…

So we decided that last night would be her first night in the coop with the other girls.
We snuck her in after dark when the other girls wouldn’t notice a stranger amongst them.
We bought a 15 cent chicken bracelet at the local Co-op…they were out of “her size” so she’s having to wear one that’s slightly too large.

I wanted to make sure we could identify her from afar from the other girls.
You look so holiday chic Ruby!
Christmas green no less ! 🎄
{red is a no-no…chickens peck at red}
IMG_1167.JPG
She’s been joining the other girls in the compost bin in their run…

And so far she’s holding her own with no pecking order wars.

When I checked on her later this afternoon {I will admit to checking her often today} she was entering a nesting box.
IMG_1196.JPG
She looked at me as if to say GO AWAY I’M BUSY!
{what you see is a wooden egg which taught them where to lay their eggs}

She promptly left the box and watched me leave…
Yes Ruby I see you from outside 🙂
She’s eyeing a favorite treat…sunflower seeds…

I’ll check in on you again soon Ruby…before it gets dark.
PS I gotta admit I was totally wrong…she is not a Rhode Island Red…she is one of our Golden Sex Links.
Silly moi!
Mr. Denim was right after all. He kept insisting she was too light.
