Hi all!
We’ve had such awesome warmish weather way up here in north Idaho…
that I decided to tempt fate in April and get this garden going!
Who am I to be patient when Mother Nature seems to be on my side?!?
IMG_7083.jpg
I planted my seedlings at least a month before the “usual” time in mid to late May.
I gambled and it paid off.
WHEW.
IMG_7073.jpg
This year has really been fun seeing the garden take shape early.
{Fred & Fern Flamingo in distance with two blueberry bushes. Garish probably. But fun.}

The kale and broccoli in the left beds are going gangbusters.
IMG_7056.jpg
I decided to plant wildflowers in the edge beds along the fence for some color and to attract bees & butterflies.
{The wire mesh is down temporarily to dog proof}
Those are hop and Virginia creeper vines along the fence.

This chive plant always lives through the winter!
She’s four years old now.
IMG_7067.jpg
We’ve already had lots of asparagus…
IMG_6964.jpg
and broccoli.
I should have planted more.
IMG_7047.jpg
I’ll start hilling the potatoes in the next few days.
IMG_7048.jpg
Had hoped to put marigolds between the rows but I don’t think I’ll have room.
IMG_7046.jpg
Kale and broccoli are growing now under future cucumber trellises.
IMG_6982.jpg
The cucumber plants are only about 1” high so far.
IMG_6986.jpg
As it gets warmer the kale and broccoli will bolt and the cucumber vines will start climbing.
I’m trying to be more efficient with my space this year.
IMG_6989.jpg
Tomatoes are still pretty small but just you wait 🍅!
IMG_7042.JPG
More kale for the chickens on the left…
{and probably kale chips for me!}
IMG_7040.jpg
…sugar peas and pole beans in this bed.
IMG_7007.jpg
Radish and romaine in lower bed…jalapeños and leeks in higher bed.
IMG_7037.jpg
Red, white and yellow onions.
IMG_7026.jpg
I have NEVER had luck with spinach until this year! And my goodness the leaves are huge!
IMG_7029.jpg
Some cabbage and mesclun lettuce mixed in with spinach.
IMG_7018.jpg
Future pole bean area…I’ll plant in about 2 weeks.
More wildflowers have been planted in beds along fence.
IMG_7053.jpg
Mrs. Meyer did die in her pot…bummer on no future lemons…but the spearmint is taking off.
Like I need more 🙁
Wake up Riley!
IMG_7013.jpg
Swiss chard and strawberries in bed along chicken coop.
The chard gets a tad sunburned here tho…guess who’ll probably get it 🐓?
IMG_6996.jpg
And of course here’s my gutter experiment.
Don’t ask yet…
IMG_7008.JPG
…but the romaine in top gutter seem stunted along with the southern exposure heat.
It’s a double whammy unfortunately.
Time will tell.
Walla Walla sweet onions are below in bed.
IMG_6995.jpg
A few more to plant…basil…lemongrass…tomatoes…marigolds…cilantro.
And only one empty bed left.
IMG_6993.jpg
Kale and sugar snap peas.
The kale won’t outlive warmer temperatures…so I’ll have more space for something in a month or so.
IMG_6972.jpg
And amen 🙂
{Hmmm…I do have tomatillos and serrano peppers and lots of garlic planted also…guess I forgot them this time!}
We’ll look at the herbs soon.
Have a good weekend gardenistas!
Everything looks great!!! Love all your plants. I couldn’t resist starting some seedlings even though our house is for sale and we’re planning a move, but my very kind husband told me we could haul a bunch of pots with us. I don’t know, eight people, two dogs, two cats, three birds, a(n) uromastyx lizard….AND throw in a bunch of garden plants while moving. Hmmmmm, we’ll see how that goes. Have a great day!
Thanks Dawn! Kinda depends where you’re moving :). But it’s always nice to “hope”!!! Let me know how your move goes and if you took some plants!
