Hey hey gardenistas…do I sound maybe too happy about silly potatoes?
FINALLY one of the raised beds was devoid of alive and kicking rye grass.
Woohoo!
IMG_6727.jpg
So I took that as a sign from above…go forth and plant, girl!
IMG_6728.jpg
It’s so easy…6-8” trench depth…place potatoes about 8” apart with buds up.
IMG_6731.jpg
Dig rows about 12” apart.
IMG_6735.jpg
Cover up with about 2” of soil…and as leaves come up just pile on more soil or straw over exposed stems.
That’s called hilling. You’ll need to do that every few weeks.
It keeps growing potatoes from being exposed to sunlight…and turning them green and bitter.
IMG_6739.jpg
Here they are covered up…and soon I’ll plant marigolds as a companion plant in between the rows…potatoes LOVE marigolds.
Pest control and all that stuff…yada yada.
A little color is nice too!
{ I actually just planted my saved marigold seeds from last year…in a tray under a grow light.}
There’s nothing easier than saving marigold seeds. That’ll be a good post at the end of summer 🙂

On that day Roman the Garden Dog was hot enough to take a dip in the pond.
Yes, go ahead Roman!
Even tho you stink to high heaven when you dry off. Silly boy.
{I jokingly call him Swamp Dog when we catch a whiff of him. But I digress.}

And I just can’t pass up mentioning fun stuff I see sometimes.
Yes it does relate to a garden…glad you asked!😏
World Market is a must stop when we head over to {big city} Spokane.
I absolutely loved all their flamingos. HA!
IMG_3687.jpg
Something for everywhere in the garden.
IMG_3688.jpg
And entertaining al fresco!
IMG_3690.jpg
Cool!
IMG_3691.jpg
Must be the Year of the Flamingo!
Think I’d better bring my flamingos out of storage.
You’ll see Fred & Fern soon 🙂

And a stop to a fave new place for lunch…Anthony’s Beach Cafe…and this time couldn’t resist taking these smile-worthy pics of their restroom doors!
IMG_3729.jpg
Love them! What a hoot!
IMG_3730.jpg
And fun vintage pics everywhere on the walls…

But this one has my name on it…anyone on Lake Pend Oreille have a slide off your dock?
I’ll be right over when the water hits 60!
Happy weekend all!
just got my spuds in yesterday…The weather here in North Idaho has been amazing…loving it 😉
It’s delightful isn’t it? I’m wondering if I should gamble with getting more seedlings in the ground. Hmmmm….
